The Winemaking Journey:
Alta Alella PB is a testament to organic viticulture. Our Pansa Blanca (Xarel·lo) grapes are harvested manually in small boxes, ensuring they arrive at the winery in perfect sanitary condition. A careful selection process is followed by a brief skin maceration at very low temperatures, a technique that allows for excellent extraction of the delicate aromas. After a gentle pressing yields the free-run must, the fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled low temperatures.
The 2024 Vintage Story:
The 2024 vintage marked a welcome return to 'normality' after several years of extreme drought. Favorable conditions in the vineyard during the vegetative period already indicated a vintage of exceptional health. The dry and hot summer climate ensured good ripening for our early varieties. From early September, a drop in temperature and the return of rains extended the ripening period for later varieties. Crucially, the significant temperature difference between day and night fostered the metabolism of aromas and grape color, helping to preserve essential acidity – a particularly positive outcome for our white wines. The harvest concluded with a more characteristic autumn climate, a pleasant change from recent years. In summary, while the plants produced fewer grapes due to the lingering effects of previous droughts, the quality and health of the 2024 harvest were outstanding.
