Tasting Notes:
- Appearance: This wine exhibits a cherry red color, which can range to a medium ruby or dusty ruby. This indicates a medium to deep visual intensity.
- Nose: The aromatic profile is complex and perfumed. It highlights ripe red fruits like strawberries and figs, dark cherries, blackcurrants, red berries, cherries, plums, and blackberries. Notes of dried fruits such as prunes and raisins are also present. These are accompanied by hints of sweet spices, black pepper, caramel, bay leaves, bell pepper, hazelnuts, smoke, tobacco, vanilla, cedar, roasted coffee, fine leather, and toasted wood. In some vintages, rustic aromas like roasted beetroot, black pepper, olive, and green herbs are detected. Chocolate notes, from bitter to dark, are consistently found.
- Palate: The wine is consistently juicy. It presents a medium to full body, with a satiny and lively sensation in some vintages, offering a medium dry body. Defining characteristics are firm, ripe and chalky, well-defined and lively, pronounced and grippy tannins, which contribute structure and longevity. It has a balanced acidity, contributing to freshness and volume. The palate echoes the aromatic complexity with flavors of chocolate, cassis, and blackberries, ripe red berries, cherries, plums, dark chocolate, black pepper, cedar, and coffee. Some expressions include grilled meat, dried green herbs, pepper, and purple flowers. Overall, it is described as savory.
Wine Profile:
This wine offers a complex and appealing sensory experience, with a profile that consistently demonstrates quality across vintages. It embodies the art and technical skill of the enologist in achieving a specific sensory profile. Its complexity, derived from the multi-varietal blend and oak aging, makes it versatile for food pairing and suggests evolution with age. The "Mountain Red Blend" from Luis Felipe Edwards' 360° Series uses high-altitude Colchagua Valley grapes (up to 900m). This elevation promotes slow ripening, leading to enhanced color, aroma, and a firm, elegant tannic structure. LFE's focus on innovation, sustainability, and biodiversity further defines the brand and its products.
Awards:
The Luis Felipe Edwards 360° Series Mountain Red Blend has received numerous accolades, including consistent high scores (mostly 90+ points) from critics like Alistair Cooper MW by Catad'Or and Descorchados for multiple vintages (e.g., 94 points for 2022 and 2021 vintages from Descorchados; 94 points for 2019 and 2022 vintages from Alistair Cooper MW by Catad'Or). It has also earned Gold Medals, such as from AWC Vienna for the 2017 vintage.
